The importance of "With"

I’ve seen a few folks write Dudes with Dogs, or Dudes w/ Dogs, and that’s ok.

But I wanted to tell you why I chose to name us Dudes With Dogs, capitalizing the W. Yes, I know people tend to not capitalize the W because prepositions aren't capitalized in titles. But this is our name, and names are. However, there's more to it than that.

Then why? It's capitalized because of its importance. “With” is the synergy that makes us more than the sum of our parts. It's what makes each of you so special. It’s why we're here.

Sure a men's group would be cool. And a dog group would be great. But you're here because of that special sauce that is dudes WITH dogs.

The way I explain it to people is that I think we men don’t open our hearts very easily. Gay or straight, I think it’s the same. We lock them up tight and hide the key. I think most of us would agree it takes quite a long time and a very special person for us to give the key to another person. But not for dogs. For some reason, they unlock our hearts right away and they stay open whenever they’re around.

Haven’t you noticed how attractive guys are when their dog is around? (The same effect happens with dads with kids). They have responsibilities! They love and take care of someone! They’re sensitive and nurturing! Attractive qualities that all of us have; we just need the opportunity to show it. DWD is that opportunity.

So, yeah, that’s why it’s Dudes With Dogs. It’s a small detail, but I think it’s key to who we are.
